I
have purchased a

want to allow them
to create a
connection to the
external data
themselves. Is this
possible?

What
is an Excel Add-In?
Answer: An
Excel Add-In is
designed to extend
and enhance Excel’s
own in built
features and
functionality, by
providing third
party software
vendors a means of
embedding their own
software directly
into Excels existing
toolbars and menus.
To a user, the
software appears to
be an intrinsic part
of Excel.

Will
XL-DBQuery allow me
to connect and query
data from any data
source?
Answer: Yes,
you can can connect
and query data from
virtually any data
source, including
CSV text files,
Access, SQL Server,
Oracle and off
course Excel itself.
However the data
source MUST
adhere to the SQL
Ansi-92 standard to
comply with the
method that
XL-DBQuery uses to
create table joins,
i.e. (Inner Join,
Outer Join).

I
want to use
XL-DBQuery to merge
data from different
sources, is this
possible?
Answer: Yes,
this is possible by
firstly exporting
the data from the
different data
sources into excel
and creating a new
‘MS Office Data
Source’ that uses
the active workbook
as a data source.
You can then join
the two sheets based
on the common key
and export the
results to another
sheet. For a further
detailed demo of
this solution,
please refer to the
flash demo entitled
‘Merging data from
different data
sources’.

want to share my
Data Source Library
file with
colleagues’, is this
possible?
Answer: Yes,
this is possible.
Just save your Data
Source Library file
to a location that
your colleagues can
gain access to it
and ask your
colleagues to create
a new query and
browse and open the
saved Data Source
Library file.

Either open the
Standard user’s Data
Source Library file
and create a new
‘External Data
Source’ and save it
to their file or
create a new Data
Source Library file
including the
external data source
and save it to a
location where the
Standard user can
open it. The
Standard user can
now query the
external data source
and edit the tables
and views that they
wish to query.

Once

data to Excel, will
I need to re-run the
query in XL-DBQuery
each time I want an
update of the data?
Answer: No,
If your query
criteria remains
unchanged, you can
simply select a cell
where your Excel
data or pivot table
resides and right
click your mouse and
select ‘Refresh
Data’ from the
pop-up menu, this
will trigger Excel
to re-run your query
and refresh your
results. You can
also edit the query
from Excel by
selecting the ‘Edit’
option from the same
pop-up menu. For a
further detailed
demo of this
functionality,
please refer to the
flash demo entitled
‘Refreshing queries
from Excel’.
