“Plan is an International Child Welfare Organisation and I was looking at query tools for some of our large central systems (SQL2000, SQL2005 and IBM iSeries DB2/UDB). Running SQL Reporting Tools is cumbersome for my users, since they need to have access to Visual Studio and their reporting model. On the other hand the users really just want a simple tool to perform Ad Hoc type queries.

File joins are made simple and the user really feels and understands the type of query they are writing. They also see the SQL statement that is being produced and they will soon start to understand that format. Some reporting tools just seem to start at the report format first and the selection query comes second which is not how a user wishes to think.

XL-DBQuery, by SBS Development is an add-in for Microsoft Excel that makes it easy to analyze your data. It lets you build queries that get the most out of your data. I was impressed with the fact that the program is extremely intuitive when it comes to getting the information you need. Another cool feature of this powerful add-in is the ability to merge information from other sources.

XL-DBQuery is intuitive to use, but I suggest that you're familiar with Microsoft Excel. It comes in two versions, Standard and Professional. The program is actually useful to both new and experienced users as each group would use it differently based on their experience. Regardless of experience XL-DBQuery is amazingly easy-to-use. So, if you have to work with data in Excel, you'll want to take a good, long look at XL-DBQuery. It lets you take your experience with Excel and build on it, getting you real results! Impressive!

"Before purchasing XL-DBQuery, I used Excel's MS Query extensively for all my Excel data import and reporting requirements. Although, not a complete novice to SQL, I often struggled to create queries because of it's lack of intuitive features and slightly disjointed and confusing functionality.
